Home Insurance
Cover for your building, your belongings, and your liability to others, whether you own a villa, an apartment, or rent the place you call home.

Buildings cover and contents cover.
Buildings cover pays to repair or rebuild the structure of your home: walls, roof, floors, and permanent fixtures such as fitted kitchens and bathrooms. Contents cover protects what you would take with you if you moved: furniture, electronics, clothing, and valuables.
Homeowners usually need both. Tenants only need contents cover, because the landlord insures the building. In apartment towers, the building is often insured by the owners' association, so it is worth checking before buying cover twice.
What you need depends on who owns the walls.
Homeowners
You are responsible for the structure and everything inside it.
- Buildings cover for the full rebuild cost

- Alternative accommodation while repairs are made
- Cover that can be assigned to your mortgage lender
Tenants
Your landlord insures the building; you insure your possessions.
- Contents cover for furniture and personal items
- Tenant's liability for accidental damage to the landlord's fixtures
- Personal liability towards neighbours and visitors
- Alternative accommodation if the home becomes unliveable
- Cover that moves with you when you change address
The risks a home policy typically covers.
Fire and smoke
Damage caused by fire, lightning, explosion, and smoke, including from electrical faults.
Water damage
Escape of water from burst pipes, tanks, and appliances, and the cost of tracing the leak.
Storm and flood
Damage from heavy rain, flooding, and high winds, which can affect homes across the region.
Burglary
Theft following forcible entry and the damage caused by the break-in.
Accidental damage
Optional cover for sudden, unintended damage, such as a dropped television.
Personal liability
Legal liability if someone is injured in your home or you damage someone else's property.
How to set your sums insured.
If your home is underinsured, any claim can be reduced in proportion. These rules of thumb help you avoid that.
Buildings: use the rebuild cost
Insure for the cost of rebuilding, including demolition and professional fees, not the market value of the property, which includes land.
Contents: count room by room
Add up the cost of replacing everything as new. Most people underestimate this, especially for clothing and kitchen items.
List high-value items
Jewellery, watches, art, and collections above the single-item limit should be listed individually with receipts or valuations.
Review every year
Building costs and your possessions change. Update your sums insured at each renewal and after major purchases or renovations.
Does home insurance cover my belongings outside the home?
Only if you add personal possessions or all-risks cover, which protects items such as phones, laptops, and jewellery while you carry them.
Is my domestic worker covered?
Some policies include liability towards domestic workers or offer it as an option. Ask us to confirm this for your policy.
What happens if my home is unliveable after damage?
Most policies pay for alternative accommodation while repairs are made, up to the limit shown in your schedule.
My bank requires buildings insurance. Can you help?
